YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Yuma is a huge farming community, and a local community recently started a nonprofit focused on teaching others how to grow their own food.
Yuma resident Bobby Ericson has been in the food industry for many years, working with food banks and creating new recipes from the comfort of his own home.
Now he is excited to share his knowledge with the community. He says his goal is to teach others how to make their own food. For him too, everything is a matter of trial and error.
“Maybe they’ve never had a garden before, we’ve never had chickens before but were willing to try and we want to show others how to do it too,” said Ericson, owner of Beachy Munchies Farm.
Ericson said the idea all started after his youngest child had to undergo open heart surgery at just four months old.
His goal is not just to teach, but essentially to find a way to give back to the community.
“So if there are people who are struggling, who need food that can come and get food as needed, anything that is in abundance, we will also give to the food bank if we get a lot of extra items that we know we need to have. we want food to go to waste,” Ericson said.
Earlier this year, the Arizona farm was approved as a nonprofit, and now they are working toward being approved by the government as a nonprofit.
